Workshop: Preparedness for you

Feel like every piece of disaster advice you’ve ever been given was written for someone who owns their home?

Store ample supplies in your garage. Retrofit your home. Save an emergency fund. Invest in solar. Get a lithium battery. Install a windmill (seriously, we’ve heard this).

If you’re renting, couch surfing, living in your car, or just one rent increase away from losing your place: that advice doesn’t help you, and if you’re like me, it might even make you feel more helpless. And nobody has bothered to write advice that does.

Until now.

Preparedness for You is a free, three-hour workshop built specifically for renters, unhoused people, and anyone navigating housing insecurity in the Northern Rivers. We’ll work through what disaster preparedness actually looks like when you don’t own your home, and what your rights are when disaster strikes.

What we’ll cover:

  • Practical disaster preparedness strategies that work for your situation: renting, unhoused, or in precarious housing
  • Your rights as a tenant before, during, and after a disaster
  • How to build mutual aid with your neighbours so you’re not facing it alone
  • How to make your voice heard in community disaster planning; because your experience matters and the system needs to hear it
