For years, Northern Rivers residents have fought to stop the demolition of buyback homes and demand our homes be relocated for public housing and community use.

That fight is working.

The NSW Auditor-General confirmed what we already knew: the NSW Reconstruction Authority failed to effectively plan or administer the $880 million Resilient Homes Program and the $100 million Resilient Lands Program. Community pressure forced that accountability. That same pressure secured the 2028 deadline extension, the licence to occupy, and the Homes Reuse Program.

But we are on high alert.

Demolitions are still happening. The Auditor-General’s recommendations have not been implemented. Flood-impacted residents are still without stable housing, and pod residents are facing eviction at the end of July, while publicly owned homes are being crushed into landfill. The NSW RA continues to operate as a connection agency – outsourcing recovery to eligible individuals and community organisations through competitive grants – rather than delivering the direct public service our community was promised.

The work is not done.
