Defend and Extend Public Housing

Across NSW and Victoria, the Labor government is demolishing public housing. Help us stop it.

Sign on to defend and extend public housing in Sydney, Melbourne and across the country.

In Sydney, the bulldozers have moved into Waterloo. The Minns Labor government is tearing down around 750 public homes and displacing close to 2,000 residents, many of them older or disabled, to hand prime public land to a private developer-led consortium. Half the new housing will be sold at market rates. Labor promised “Hands Off Waterloo” before the last election, then broke that promise.

In Melbourne, the Allan Labor government is demolishing all 44 public housing towers, uprooting around 10,000 residents, with the sites rebuilt for private development by 2051. A parliamentary inquiry called for a halt. The government is pushing ahead anyway, now coming for towers that house elderly residents.

This is not renewal. It is the sell-off of public land and the loss of secure, genuinely public homes, while tens of thousands of people wait years on the list.

Fifty years ago, workers and residents stood together through the green bans and stopped the bulldozers. That tradition is still ours.

Add your name. No demolitions. No privatisation. Defend and extend public housing.
